Pool Pumps
The pool pump is the heart of any swimming pool system. If you are buying one for a new pool or replacing an existing pump there are a few different options to consider:
Horsepower (hp) - Pumps generally range from 1/2 to 2hp, if you are replacing an existing pump it is generally best to replace like for like. The size of your pump depends on the volume of water in the pool but is also affected by the position of the pump and distance from the pool. Your pump should be able to circulate all the water in the pool in under eight hours.
Motor speed - Your options here are single speed, dual speed or variable speed. Single speed pumps are the most common and are generally the cheapest option. Dual speed pumps can be run at a higher speed the pool is in high use and lower speeds at other times, saving money on running costs. Variable speed pumps are generally the most expensive, are digitally controlled, run quieter and are cheaper to run.
